In a fierce match up to begin the season for two premier Division 2 (D2) teams, both the Glendale Raptors and Colorado Springs started the game strong in defense.
Glendale Raptors started off with ball security issues while Colorado Springs dominated the first 10 minutes on offense, capitalizing on the Raptors’ mistakes. After shaking off nerves, a true contest of rugby began with both teams trading possession.
The first points came for Glendale with the ball swung wide and threw the backs hands for a score in the corner. At this time, the Glendale Raptors turned it on with their structured offense finding multiple scoring opportunities, primarily in the backs.
It wasn’t too long before Colorado Springs answered back as they powered their way down grabbing a score for themselves. After halftime, Colorado Springs started off with strong play, maintaining field position in Glendale’s territory for 5-10 minutes. Fortunately, Glendale had the wind in their favor using it with solid kicks into touch.
Glendale continued to use the wind to their advantage for the remainder of the half, scoring many times to a final result of 56-15. Strong game performances from Andrew Miller and Zach Strom of Glendale and Cade Lang of Colorado Springs earned the lads match recognition.
Glendale Raptors D2 have a bye week next.
