A fitness program designed to take the exciting Latin and International dance moves created in the original Zumba program and bring them to the Active Older Adult, beginner and everyone else needing modifications for a successful class.
Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement, and activity for daily living skills. Hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles, and a ball are offered for resistance. A chair is used for seated and/or standing support. This class is open to all senior members.
Combine fun with fitness to increase your cardiovascular & muscular endurance power with a standing circuit workout, upper body strength work with handheld weights, elastic tubing with handles and a ball is alternated with non-impact aerobic choreography. A chair is offered for support, stretching and relaxation exercises.
This class will move your whole body through a complete series of seated and standing Yoga poses. Chair support is offered to safely perform a variety of postures designed to increase flexibility, balance and range of movement. Restorative breathing exercises and a final relaxation will promote stress reduction and mental clarity.
Moving for Better Balance
This is a falls prevention program that uses the principles & movements of Tai Chi in helping older adults improve their balance, agility and coordination in functional abilities. The class format and design have been acknowledged as one of the few evidence based interventions for the prevention of falls by the Center of Disease Control and National Injury Prevention and Control. These classes are free to members but are limited to 15 people in class and run in 12 week sessions. Pre-registration is required.
T'ai Chi Chih
This class is a series of gentle, flowing movements designed to circulate and harmonize the Chi-the vital energy force flowing through the body. The movements are designed to be simple to learn so that students of various skill levels and age groups can master the form. Potential benefits of regular practice include stess reduction, improved balance, management of chronic ailments, increased energy, enhanced mental clarity and improved athletic performance.
